The Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio are excited to present the 27th Annual High School Art Exhibition, an annual high school art competition we have sponsored for the past 26 years. This year the “live” exhibition is at Gallery B in Bethesda, MD, Friday-Sunday during the month of March and our virtual, juried exhibition includes exceptional artwork by talented high school students from the DMV area. Congratulations to the awardees! This year 125 entries were submitted. From those entries forty outstanding works were juried into this show.
First Prize of $500, Second Prize of $250, and Third Prize of $150 are awarded to our judge’s top three picks plus 6 Honorable Mentions. Plaza Gift Cards are given to the 37 additional students whose works’ juried into this exhibit.
This year we were pleased to give awards to two teachers, the teacher whose student received First Prize and the teacher who had the most students that juried into this show. We hope you will join us at the reception at Gallery B on Saturday March 7.
Best of luck to everyone!
The Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio would like to express our “Thanks” to several very important people and groups without whom this show would not have been possible. We sincerely thank The Friends membership and supporters whose dues and generous donations allow us to give back to our community for this very worthy event.
A big shout out to the High Schools in the DMV whose teachers motivated their students to produce works of art that were as unique as each one of them. The arts are alive and well in high school!
This year’s 15 participating schools included:
Albert Einstein High School, Montgomery Bair High School, Holton-Arms, Walter Johnson High School, The Landon School, Magruder High School, Middletown High School, Northwest High School, Richard Montgomery High School, Rockville High School, Seneca Valley High School, St. Andrews Episcopal High School, Thomas S. Wootton High School, Walt Whitman High School, and the Washington Waldorf School.
We are very grateful to Vian Borchert, popular Yellow Barn Instructor and International Artist, for her expertise and time to jury the forty competitive artworks from the 128 submissions.
We would like to thank Eric Zelenko and Plaza Art for their continued support and dedication to The Friends! Plaza sponsors the First Place award at the show. Our events would not be the same without Plaza Art… Yay Plaza!!
We would also like to express our gratitude to Jack Fuller who every year has donated the Second Place award in memory of his wife, Mitzi Yater Fuller, a Washington artist and teacher who was a devoted student of the Yellow Barn Studio for many years. You can view her work on our Donation Page.
Congratulations to the young artists and many thanks to their teachers and families who supported this event!
