May be My Body is Okay Sometimes - Penelope Hager
The Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio are excited to present the 26th Annual High School Art Exhibition, an annual high school art competition we have sponsored for the past 25 years. This year the virtual, juried exhibition includes exceptional artwork by talented high school students from DMV area. Congratulations to the awardees! Every year forty outstanding works are juried into this show.
First Prize of $500, Second Prize of $250, and Third Prize of $150 are awarded to our judge’s top three picks. Plaza Gift Cards of $25 are given to the 38 additional students whose works’ juried into this exhibit.
The Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio would like to express our “Thanks” to several very important people and groups without whom this show would not have been possible.
We sincerely thank The Friends membership and supporters whose dues and generous donations allow us to give back to our community for this very worthy event.
A big shout out to the High Schools in the DMV whose teachers motivated their students to produce works of art that were as unique as each one of them. The arts are alive and well in high school!
This year’s 17 participating schools included;
Albert Einstein High School, Montgomery Bair High School, Winston Churchill High School, Holton-Arms, The Landon School, Magruder High School, The Maret School, National Cathedral School, Northwest High School, Parkdale High School, Isaiah Montgomery High School, Richard Montgomery High School, Seneca Valley High School, St. Andrews Episcopal High School, Thomas S. Wootton High School, Walt Whitman High School, and the Washington Waldorf School.
We are very grateful to Ken Conley, popular Yellow Barn Instructor and College Professor, for his expertise and time to jury the forty competitive artworks from the 160 submissions.
And, we would like to express our gratitude to Jack Fuller who every year has donated the “Second Place” award in memory of his wife, Mitzi Yater Fuller, a Washington artist and teacher who was a devoted student of the Yellow Barn for many years. You can view her work on our Donation Page.
Lastly, we would like to thank Eric Zelenko and Plaza Art for their continued support and dedication to The Friends! Our events would not be the same without Plaza Art… Yay Plaza!!
This year some of our student artists put their work up for sale. The artists are responsible for the sale and delivery of their works. The Friends will put the artist in touch with a prospective buyer. Please contact us at info@friendsoftheyellowbarnstudio.org if there is interest.
Congrats to the young artists and many thanks to their teachers and families who supported this event!
